Ever hear the criticism of Carl Jung’s work and depth psychology, in general, that images from the psyche and from myth cannot be measured? Well, it’s the most outlandish myth of all!
If you’re familiar with imaginary numbers, then you already know. With i for the square root of -1, e for the 2.71828… base of a natural logarithm, and x in radians; there is Euler’s eⁱˣ = cosx + isinx formula—”our jewel” according to the Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman. This formula measures images in their circular rotation. That makes the imaginary side no less measurable than the real side. What a crying shame that this isn’t commonly known, particularly when it comes to solving serious problems bound up in organizations in their prejudice and intrigue.
Just as “it takes a village to raise a child”; it takes a village to solve systemic problems by engaging the citizens and their images of solutions. Yet, it only takes one misinformed, insecure boss discrediting imagination as a waste of time to jumble the problem-solving process in favor of a problem-ridden status quo.
