I really enjoy hoping on the Amtrak Acela from Philadelphia or the New Jersey Northeast Corridor Express from Trenton to New York. I take my seat and off we go, soon to arrive in the Big Apple. But what if everyone on the train was entangled with everyone else and in all the seats at the same time. Yet, when it comes to the unseen quantum reality in organizations, that’s the case.
Using a similar approach to that of Max Born for which he and Walther Bothe shared the 1954 Nobel Prize, management positions fall into standing waves. Each position carries a certain probability with all the probabilities totaling 100%. And the probability of a person falling into a set position is zero. So, each employee falls into all of the positions at once. The probabilities tell you where you might expect to find someone should you look.
It’s even conceivable that other stakeholders, like customers and suppliers, fall into superposition along with the employees. It sure would make for a fascinating ride home, headed back from the Big Apple.
