The story of Blue Organizational Solutions (BOSS) has a rather unusual beginning. I was a partner in a CPA firm in Columbus, Ohio—Whalen, Blue & Company—but not doing any accounting. Clients wanted my advice. So rather than continuing with the firm, I decided to go back to school. Having attended Ohio State, I went to an MBA advisor there. I explained what clients sought me out for and he said, “Two floors up, Organizational Behavior.” I next entered the doctoral program in Organizational Behavior at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland and was the first CPA to earn a PhD there. In my dissertation, I discovered the quantum condition in organizations. Neither my advisor (the department chair) nor the rest of my dissertation committee realized what I had found. Neither did I until much later. So began my new career, which has included writing about and speaking on this condition.
